What Drugs Was Your Thanksgiving Turkey On?

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Antibiotics and other drugs are common in the turkey that thousands of Americans eat every day.

So far, 2011 has not been a great year for turkey producers. In May, an article in Clinical Infectious Diseases reported that half of U.S. meat from major grocery chains–turkey, beef, chicken and pork–harbors antibiotic resistant staph germs commonly called MRSA. Turkey had twice and even three times the MRSA of all other meats, in another study.

Marcellus Shale Gas Beneath Pennsylvania

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

The Community Action Forum is requesting that you contact your Senator and Representative to lobby them to vote against SB 1100 an HB 1950.

Last week, the State Senate and the State House passed different versions of bills authorizing a impact fee for extraction of Marcellus Shale gas beneath Pennsylvania. The bills also limit the right of municipalities to regulate drillers. Both versions ignore our environment. Both versions favor the drilling companies. Raw Milk Freedom Riders Take Action!

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

On Tuesday, Nov. 1st, a caravan of moms (and a few dads, grandmas & grandpas) picked up unprocessed (raw) milk from a farm located in Pennsylvania. These folks came from all over the US and even Ontario, Canada, all to partake in a defiant act of civil disobedience. What was this terrible activity for which they risked arrest? Transporting that same milk across the state line into Maryland. Click here to read the rest of this article by Maureen Diaz.

Fresh Thoughts on Real Food | 10/28/2011 | The Family Cow

Just when we think all history-making events have occurred in, well, history, along comes developments during which we pinch ourselves to be sure we are awake. History happens in front of our eyes! Oct/Nov 2011 definitely qualifies as a ‘pincher moment’ of raw milk history. Here’s what’s happening as we speak.

Ontario raw milk farmer, Michael Schmidt, the most intelligent, classy, serious, steady-thinking, logical, analytical farmer that I have ever met anywhere is on a water-only hunger strike. And it is getting serious! Today is day 29! All he is asking is that Premier McGuinty of Ontario meet with him in person to discuss how he and other raw dairy farmers can simultaneously service their herd-share members and satisfy public health safety concerns. But so far, McGuinty will not give him the time of day. Canadian officials have raided Michael’s dairy several times even though they admit that there have been no food safety issues with raw milk from his farm……
